The School Based Police Liaison Officer (SBPO) is a sworn officer of the Queensland Police Service and works with Woree State High School (including SchoolTech program and feeder primary school) on Monday through to Friday of each school week.
School Based Policing (SBP) is a joint initiative of the Queensland Police Service and Education Queensland and helps provide a safe and supportive learning environment for all students. SBP is based on the interaction of a SBPO with students and school authorities in a school environment.
The SBPO is able to provide information sessions and presentations to students in relation to topics of concern and relevant issues including, but not limited to:
The SBPO aims to be a support person for students and to bridge the gap and enhance the relationship between youth and police. The SBPO works in schools but is employed by the Commissioner of Police, Queensland Police Service.
Position Objective
In consultation with selected schools:
provide a policing resource to address identified needs within the school community
assist teachers in developing and presenting curriculum material to meet police and school community needs
undertake initial response and investigation of incidents within the parameters of the school.
Reporting Relationship
This position reports to the Officer in Charge Cairns Child Protection and Investigation Unit.
Principal Responsibilities
Ensure effective management of resources under their control.
Network with appropriate support groups, agencies and stakeholders to assist in the effective use of services to meet school community needs.
Liaise with and provide necessary support to local Adopt a Cops.
Implement, manage and apply problem solving approaches to bring about improved service delivery.
